Dr Peter Carter was CEO of the CNWL NHS Trust for 12 years and CEO/Gen Sec of the Royal College of Nursing for 9 years. He regularly contributes articles to the Nursing Times and has extensive media experience. He is credited with reviving the RCN which was on the verge of bankruptcy when he took up post in January 2007. Since leaving the RCN he has worked as an Independent Healthcare Consultant across the UK and internationally. In 2020 peter was awarded the lifetime achievement award from the 4 CNO's of the United Kingdom for his services to nursing. He has given expert witness evidence in over 200 medico-legal cases. In 2024 he published his first book as a sole author entitled My Asylum days.
