Our Sustainability Journey

At the Student Nursing Times Awards, we're committed to making our event as environmentally responsible as possible. Here's what we're doing - and where we want to go next.

Small Choices, Big Impact

You may be asking yourself why you never see red meat on the Student Nursing Times Awards menu. That's one of many small conscious decisions we make each year to drive forward our sustainability agenda, in an effort to help our event tread more lightly on the environment.

That includes applying pressure to our venues to adopt more aggressive sustainable practices, procuring suppliers with an eco-bias, eliminating single-use plastic, and reducing the amount of physical print at our events.

A Greener Stage

The JW Marriott Grosvenor House London is a three-time 'Greener Path' award winner for achieving 0% to landfill, and a 'Green Tourism' award winner for its sustainability practices. These include a new AC unit in the Great Room to help meet energy savings targets, recycling cooking oil which is turned into bio-fuel for transport, and eliminating plastic straws.

The venue is also an ENERGY STAR® certified establishment, setting a shining example of environmental responsibility. You can find out more about Marriott's wider sustainability goals - including their commitments to responsible sourcing, carbon reduction, and community impact - via the link below.

Sustainably Sourced

The menu for this event has been chosen with sustainability front of mind. The venue only uses free-range Clarence Court eggs, and all food waste is processed for use in agriculture. We've chosen a white meat option as the main meal, and all ingredients are sourced as locally to the venue as possible.

Did You Know?

By attending this event and eating the proposed menu instead of beef, you're helping us cut the event's catering carbon footprint by up to 80%. This year, the Student Nursing Times Awards will cut approximately 6-7 tonnes from its carbon footprint through food alone. That's huge - thank you for helping us be a more responsible event organiser.

Eco-First Partners

Nursing Times chooses its suppliers with a bias towards those partners who take sustainability seriously. The programme is printed using recycled paper and our use of digital assets means we continue to reduce the amount of printed collateral year-on-year.

Electronic Tickets

No printed tickets - everything is digital, reducing paper waste entirely.

ISO 14001 Signage

Provided by Insite Graphics. All signage is recyclable, reusable, or used to generate community power - none goes to landfill.

Water-Based Inks

All printed materials use water-based inks, with cardboard-based alternatives recyclable in standard paper waste.

Straycat Communications

The stunning stage set is provided by Straycat Communications, our AV partner for the awards. The majority of the lighting and backdrop is LED, reducing electricity consumption by up to 80% compared to traditional tungsten lighting. Trucks used by the company are never run on empty miles and suppliers are local to London.
