Sheila is a Professor Emeritus in Nursing and CPD with the University of Sunderland, holds an Honorary Chair in Practitioner Development with the University of Cumbria, and is currently a Senior Nurse and Principal Academic with Cumbria, Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Trust Academy. She worked in Children’s Intensive care as a lead nurse and advanced practitioner for twenty years prior to moving to Education in Northumbria University, holding roles of senior and principal lecturer and Head of Department, before taking up a Professorial role. Her Nursing career is now 40 years plus. Sheila has used innovations in practice and in education to develop practice and health professionals to ensure patient safety and quality improvement in care. She has also acted as a consultant on NICE guidelines for Children’s meningitis, and developed National curricula for Advanced Critical Care Practitioners, and Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeships. Her firm belief is that Nursing is the best career in the world and remains very proud to be called a Nurse.
