Gary is a senior lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Queen's University Belfast. He is a registered nurse with significant clinical and academic experience in nursing education, care of older people, care homes and dementia. Gary has published a book, written over 60 peer-reviewed articles in healthcare journals and presented at a range of international conferences. In his role of senior lecturer, Gary is responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate nurses and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Within his school, Gary is the programme lead for year one, academic lead for peer-mentorship and is interested in the co-development and evaluation of educational podcasts, gamification, and other modes of asynchronous learning. Gary is also a Council of Deans #150Leaders Coach and Chair of the RCN’s Older People’s Nursing Forum. He is also a past recipient of the Inspirational Nurse Leader Award (Nursing Times), Nurse of the Year Award (British Journal of Nursing) and holds the title of Queen’s Nurse.
