Marie Newman, a dual-qualified Mental Health and Adult Nurse, serves as Senior Lecturer at Buckinghamshire New University and Practice Educator for Central and North West London NHS Trust. Since arriving from Jamaica in 1999, she has dedicated herself to nursing education, bridging academia and practice through initiatives like her bi-weekly Student Reflective Club. Laura takes great pride in supporting students and is deeply passionate about providing an exceptional learning experience across a busy and specialist Community Children and Adolescent Mental Health Team. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in CAMHS Eating Disorders, Laura is able to use her expert knowledge to teach students and de-stigmatise Eating Disorders. Laura always makes time to organise nursing student placements and ensure they feel supported throughout their time on placement. Laura is an exceptional example of a nurse and practice assessor, she is a dedicated advocate and uses her skills to empower, educate and inspire future nurses.

Paula Wilkinson The James Cook University Hospital

Paula’s very aware of students’ anxiety and stress; taking into consideration that many students had no prior practical nursing involvement. This alone could overwhelm and possibly frighten them to some extent, one that far exceeded the feelings and emotions of starting a new placement out of pandemic. Paula has done a lot of work on her supervisory and assessor skills. Paula encourage learners to be open and honest in how they feel so that any concerns can be discussed and eased to promote a positive experience.
