Birmingham City University has a reputation for providing quality, student-focused education in a professional and friendly environment. Our School of Nursing and Midwifery, part of the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences is the largest trainer of undergraduate nurses in the Midlands (HESA Student Record 2017/18) and provides a dynamic and forward-thinking learning environment, supported by more than 160 academic staff who are qualified nurses, midwives and experts in their fields. The School benefits from close links with local NHS Trusts and healthcare providers which ensure that our students are at the heart of innovation and developments in the healthcare sector. As well as being able to offer placements in one of the biggest hospitals in Europe, and one of only two women’s hospitals in the country, we provide placements in GP surgeries and in other local settings to ensure students experience the full range of healthcare services. We have an outstanding record for graduate employability, with over 99% of our students in work or further study 6 month after graduating (DLHE 2016/17). The Faculty has a strong commitment to teaching quality and has been awarded the Skills for Health Quality Mark, in recognition of the high standard of learning and training delivered to the health sector (2019-20).
