Alexx Dixon, the 2024 winner of the Student Nurse or Midwife of the Year: Clinical Research award, is a newly qualified dual-registered nurse working in community addictions care at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. During their nursing training, Alexx served as a health promotion specialist in London with CLASH/SHOC, providing outreach and drop-in sexual health services to sex workers across the city. In 2022, Alexx co-authored a set of Clinical Standards for the Sexual Health Management of Sex Workers in collaboration with the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV. By 2024, they had co-authored their first academic paper, published in the Journal of Advanced Nursing, titled "Exploring Perceptions of What Increased Gender Diversity Might Bring to the Nursing Profession." Most recently, Alexx secured their first paid research role as part of a multidisciplinary working group, contributing to the development of a medium-to-large grant proposal aimed at advancing collaborative research in the fields of sex work and trans healthcare.
