Irene is a Professional Lead for Adult Nursing at the University of Hertfordshire, leading a large team of academic staff responsible for BSc and MSc pre-registration nursing as well as nursing associate, advanced practice and contemporary nursing CPD programmes. She is an Associate Professor in learning and teaching with a National Teaching Fellowship, a competitive award that recognises individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession. Irene is a Principal Lecturer in tissue viability and runs wound care and leg ulcer management education. She publishes mainly on tissue viability topics and has a keen interest in encouraging new writers. She holds a degree in tissue viability, an MSc in nursing and is currently finalising a doctorate with a focus on defining and measuring competence in leg ulcer management.
Outside work, Irene is a trustee for 2 charities: Leg Ulcer Forum (past chair, journal editor and current education lead), and a UK charity supporting stoma care education in Romania (Romanian Ostomy Patients Support Foundation). She is an active member of the Beds and Herts Tissue Viability Nurses Forum.
