I am a registered nurse (RGN & RMN) and registered midwife (RM). I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I have worked in health care both in the UK and South Africa. Whilst working in South Africa as a midwife I developed my interest in student education. I have worked in Higher Education for the past 17 years and have a student-centred philosophy, which has enabled me to support many students to achieve their goal of becoming a midwife or nurse. Since achieving my Doctorate in Law, I have been the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Social Care Level 7 Research Modules Lead within the University. In this role I have supported postgraduate students, many of whom are practitioners, to develop their knowledge of research which they can use to enhance the quality of care in practice. The research modules sit at the end of the MSc programme and I am proud that I have been able to help these students to complete their studies, particularly during the past year, when many of them have been providing care to patients during the pandemic whilst also trying to complete their Masters qualifications.
