Emma Winterman is currently an Associate Professor and Head of the Dame Ellen Musson Department for Adult Nursing at Birmingham City University. BCU hosts one of the largest nurse training programmes nationally, supporting the learning of over 2000 student nurses across all fields of nursing and across multiple access to Nursing routes including apprenticeships. Emma’s clinical background is within emergency nursing, however she has held a diverse range of academic and practice based roles throughout her 20 year career. Emma has a particular interest in practice based learning and through a variety of roles she has led on multiple projects towards diversifying and enhancing her learners clinical learning opportunities and experiences. These have included the implementation of a Clinical Education and Mentorship Support Team model to support mentorship, and working in direct partnership with regional Training Hubs to extended student learning into previously inaccessible placements areas, thus highlighting the diverse and multifaceted nature of nursing.
