Denise is head of school at the University of Derby where she was instrumental in establishing the first cohorts of nursing associates and nurse degree apprentices. Denise has worked at a national level of the development of apprenticeships and has focused her research on the implementation of apprenticeships in the National Health Service. She continues to engage with the widening participation agenda and feels strongly that the nursing associate role is a valued addition to the nursing family. Denise is also governor at a local NHS Trust and NMC Visitor.
