I should be considered for the Student Nurse of the Year award because of my commitment to patient care, leadership roles, and experiences in the Acute Frailty Assessment Unit. My dedication to compassionate care for older adults allowed me to develop individualised care plans and implement a mobility program that improved their confidence and independence. Additionally, my participation in community health education, such as the UK Resuscitation Restart the Heart Awareness Day, underscores my advocacy for patient empowerment. My nomination for professional recognition further reflects my contributions and passion for nursing, establishing me as a strong candidate for this award.

Nat is an Adult Student Nurse. Nat is deaf. You may pause at this point to consider how this might impact on the ability of a nurse to navigate clinical duties and deliver patient safe care. Nat is already ahead of you, making it happen, leading reform across academia and clinical practice to ensure that were there weren’t processes in place to support deaf/Deafened students/student nurses/patients that there now are. Nat uses her hearing loss as motivation to overcome obstacles and trailblaze – enabling and equipping others with the support they need and reducing barriers to inequality.

Becky is a final year student nurse at the University of York. Throughout her degree, Becky has engaged in numerous activities outside of her programme, including being on the Council of Deans of Health Student Leadership Programme for 2023-24, where she worked on a project to improve the experience of neurodivergent student nurses and midwives.As well as this, Becky has led the Nursing Society at her university, hosting academic talks and socials for student nurses, and also engaged as an RCN student ambassador in her area and supported other students to engage in research activities and conferences.

Oluchi Okoroafor is a dedicated nursing student at the University of Salford, recognized for her leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to supporting peers. As the 2024 Student Nurse Champion, she played a key role in organizing the Netherlands Nursing Students Week, fostering cross-cultural exchange and delivering lectures on UK nursing practices. Oluchi co-founded the Student Wellbeing and Academic Buddy System (SWAB) to support fellow nursing students and has been commended for her leadership, teamwork, and teaching skills.
