Compassionate, empathetic, considerate, proactive and driven are a few of the words that have been used to describe Student Nurse Apprentice – Roxanne Bailey. Since joining Nuffield Health as Bank Healthcare Assistant in 2017, Roxanne has completed her Level 5 Nurse Associate Apprenticeship and is currently in her final year of her Level 6 Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship.

After devoting years to my clinics, I decided to begin a new stage of my life by going back to education to obtain my nurses' degree. Now I am a few feet away from completion, I have spent time reflecting on my journey. In despite of all the trials and tribulations, I have become a resilient person and my main drive, that has never once wavered, is my desire to build on my past experiences in the medical profession and become a fully-competent nurse and I would feel honoured to be awarded the Apprentice Nurse of the Year.

Helen, who began her top-up degree in February 2024, exemplified exceptional dedication to nursing despite facing terminal renal cancer. Following her diagnosis in July 2024, she immediately engaged with Kidney Cancer UK, advocated for improved hypertension screening protocols, and collaborated with the RCN regarding nurses with palliative conditions. Even from her oncology ward bed, Helen continued attending classes, inspiring fellow students to make healthier choices. She worked until November 2024, married her partner Pete shortly before passing away in December at age 35. Helen's legacy lives on through her
